Governor Ed Rendell of Pennsylvania is running for re-election in 2006. Rendell has been accredited for increasing investment in education, cutting the costs of operating the state government, and reducing the reliance of school budgets on property taxes. He has brought in more revenue through new gaming legislation. Rendell has also instated an Economic Stimulus program and Accountability Block Grants for students who have the greatest challenges in schooling. This article is written with a rather favorable angle and from this perspective it would seem that Rendell has a good chance of being re-elected.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, this year's election will be decided by money. Randell is reported to have $12.5 million in campaigning funds. His opponents, Lynn Swann and Bill Scranton, are reported to have about $1 million each. The governor has received many five- and six-figure donations to his campaign. It seems likely that Swann will get the Republican endorsement. However, with Rendell having such extensive monetary resources, it will be a difficult and expensive race.
